A Little Back Story

Last night I didn't enjoy my usual libation like I prefer. However, I had the chance to sit down and relax. Caught up on some of that LOST craze everyone is talking about. Well caught up are not the right words as I only watched the first two episodes of season one. My wife got terrified and insisted that we go back to the bedroom and call it a night.

Well, despite not having a drink last night I was able to have one during lunch. I know what you are thinking. This guy is an alcoholic, lush or whatever other adjective you can conjure up. Truth of the matter is a dear friend of mines sister was laid off that morning. The sister is a dear friend of mine as well, just not quite as dear.

I thought that she would be joining the few people I work with and myself at the taqueria down the way. She didn't. But, hey I am not complaining. We all had a good time discussing our futures or what we think our futures might hold.

You see, most of us started at this company six to eight years ago. Back when it was locally owned. Out of small town Oxford, MS we were able to produce one of (if not the best)beverage show in the Western Hemisphere. Not only had we grown to love what we did, but it became a show that defined us. We were the ones that built it and made it.

Now with knew management out of Boston, MA it has taken a turn for the worst. The show has shrunk by more than half and the Restaurant side of the show is almost non-existent. It probably will be the last year that segment is around. We have all this to thank to poor management.

Over the past three years here we have not been able to get comfortable with the new owners. We have moved offices, lost key leadership and key relationships. Not to mention the number of workers in this office has dropped from over 30 to roughly 10. I am sure you can imagine why it is hard to trust these people.

This should show you how I got to my new found dream and why I am headed there. However, over the next few days there will be more fun descriptions of why and how I have become to love wine so much.
