As a matter of fact....

My first Texas wine was a Viognier produced by Guy Stout, MS, a wine educator for Glazer’s, a major beer, wine and spirits distributor in Texas. His grapes came from the Hill Country. I was surprised with the concentration of the apricot and peach flavors in the wine.

If you happen to be flying through DFW, stop by Terminal D near gate 15. La Bodega Wine Bar offers several Texas wines. I did enjoy the MacWilliams Shiraz. It had much more depth and complexity than I expected. Again, you are looking at a Hill Country wine.

Lastly, let me mention a college classmate of mine. We graduated from a small, Southern Baptist college several years ago. He now has a winery in Texas. Not bad for the son of a Southern Baptist preacher. I haven’t yet ordered from him, but I suspect I will get a mixed case to sample during the year. His website is www.landonwinery.com.
