New "Winetime" Chocolate Bar with Resveratrol now available!
The Resveratrol WineTime™ Bar is the first and—as far as I am aware—still the only food bar containing resveratrol. Other companies have produced resveratrol in pills and drinks but we were first to market in a bar.
We are promoting the bar as a “healthy indulgence.” We provide the healthy benefits of resveratrol in a bar that is “sinfully delicious.” It’s as much of a gourmet chocolate treat as it is a nutrition bar.
The WineTime Bar is a rich dark chocolate bar, harmonized with dates and almonds. It is high in fiber (7 grams) and low in calories (190 calories). It also contains seven extra super fruits, cranberry, noni, pomegranate, goji berry, acai, mangosteen and blueberry. There is absolutely nothing else quite like it available anywhere else.
We came up with the idea in February of 2009, officially incorporated in July and launched on December 1st. When we first thought of it my immediate reaction was, ‘Someone must have already done it.’ After some quick research we obviously discovered that that was not the case. I then thought, ‘There has to be a reason why not. Maybe resveratrol is inherently unstable in a food format.’ So we talked to resveratrol suppliers, bar formulators and bar manufacturers and discovered there was absolutely no reason why a bar could not be produced. As the months went by I kept Googling and reading the trade press expecting someone else to beat us to it; fortunately, no-one did.
We are in the process of establishing nationwide distribution and also sell direct through our web site: www.winetimebar.com. Suggested retail is $2.99 per bar. We exhibited at the National Association of the Specialty Food Trade’s Fancy Foods Show in San Francisco in January and had a fantastic response.
You would expect health food stores to have great interest but this bar has much more wide-ranging appeal. We have been inundated with inquiries from all kinds of retailers from major grocery chains to wineries and wine stores. We have had hotels and spas and gift basket companies contact us, as well as groups of health professionals and internet retailers. There has also been extremely interest from overseas buyers.
In creating the bar we thoroughly researched the resveratrol market and must have spoken with more than a dozen different suppliers. We decided to use two high grade sources of resveratrol: resVida®, produced by DSM Nutritional Products, the world’s largest supplier of Nutraceuticals and BioVin Advanced® from CyVex Nutrition.
resVida is a 99% pure compound while BioVin Advanced comes from premium French red grapes harvested in the Rhône Valley. We elected to incorporate resVida as a primary source of resveratrol because it has the most extensive scientific and safety substantiation of any resveratrol. We chose BioVin Advanced because we wanted resveratrol from grapes to help justify the product name ‘WineTime’ and because of the synergistic benefit of the other polyphenols that it contains. And that, apart from quality, was another reason for ruling out resveratrol from the Japanese Knotweed plant, even though that would have kept costs down.
This is a powerful combination—the best of science and the best of nature. The best of all worlds.
We have used resVida and even include their logo on our packaging because we were so impressed with the company’s commitment to research. They have ongoing human clinical trials, which few other companies can claim, which hopefully will continue to validate the health benefits that have been seen in so many animal studies.
A recent clinical study, for instance, showed for the first time that resVida can improve heart health in humans.
Two separate analyses of one of the first studies involving human patients unveiled by University of South Australia researchers Narelle Berry, Ph.D., and Rachel Wong, B.S. concluded that resVida prompted a positive effect on blood flow of the brachial artery, the artery that runs from the shoulder down to the elbow. Measuring the blood flow of this artery is considered a key indicator of vascular health. These results are exciting because they are the first data that show the potential cardiovascular health benefits of resVida in humans.
Having said that, and even though there has been so much research proving the health benefits of resveratrol, we have been careful not to make any claims on our packaging—other than to say each bar contains more resveratrol than 50 glasses of red wine. With growing awareness of resveratrol we feel that the educated consumer will get the message. We regard the exact composition as proprietary information.
Praise for The WineTime Bar
“Vino lovers, rejoice! There’s a new snack that combines the rich flavors of fruits and chocolate and the health benefits of your favorite red wine, without the threat of a hangover. Sweet and satisfying, just like a nice glass of Pinot. Dates, almonds, dark chocolates, and cranberries add a rich taste….a distinctive fruity flavor layered beneath the chocolate. And there is the slightest hint of the tannin taste you get at the end of a sip of wine. For nondrinkers, this is a great way to get the health benefits of red wine.”

“This new nutrition bar with Resveratrol, appropriately called WineTime, packs a double punch. It gets Resveratrol from two sources—purified Resveratrol and grape extract; and is a tantalizing blend of dark chocolate, almonds, and super fruits… It’s even diet-friendly with each bar having only190 calories which is less than most standard candy bars that offer less nutrition. WineTime nutrition bar with Resveratrol sounds like a yummy alternative to other sweet treats…”

“Wine and chocolate; few could disagree that this is a match made in heaven. When I saw a description of a chocolate bar containing “more resveratrol than 50 glasses of red wine” I knew I just had to try it. Compared to other commercial bars, the WineTime bar had a more ‘homemade’ quality about the flavor and texture. A big plus, there was no aftertaste that is often associated with nutrition bars.”

“I LOVE the flavor. It reminds me of the chocolate coated raspberry jellies that I ate as a kid. I think it may be the cranberry component, which is brilliant on the palate. You have a real winner! I will recommend the WineTime Bar to my clients.”

“Ummm…I want a case of these magical chocolate bars. WineTime chocolate bars are so yummy. In each bite you can taste delicious chocolate, red wine, dates and almonds. A fabulous combination. What’s more impressive about these chocolate bars is the resveratrol that it contains.”
