1st segment of this weeks Show: Short Supply High Demand for Classic Method Hagafen Cellars Napa Brut Cuvée Sparkling Wine - Ernie Weir

Ernie Weir, Founder, Hagafen Cellars, Napa joins us to talk about the 2010 harvest and why he doesn't produce classic method sparkling wine every year. As former vineyard manager for Domain Chandon, Weir has a long history growing grapes in Napa as well as crafting delicious bubbly like the currently available 2007 Hagafen Brut Cuvée Sparkling Wine. A seasoned opportunist in the vineyard, Weir embraces new winemaking challenges with each new harvest. One of the many gems to choose from is the 2008 Prix Vineyards Reserve Late Harvest White Riesling in half bottle and 2007 Hagafen Estate Bottled Napa Valley Cabernet Franc.

"Increasing the significance of this recognition is the fact that it is the only American Riesling in the top 100, the first Finger Lakes wine to achieve that, and the company this wine is in: the other four Rieslings in the top 100 hail from some of the most famous wineries and regions in the world like Trimbach (Alsace), St. Urbans-hof (Mosel), and Robert Weil and Schloss Vollrads (Rheingau)," says Jim Trezise , President of NY Wine & Grape Foundation. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Winemaker Fred Merwarth will host a special vertical Cabernet Franc tasting at the winery in Dundee, New York, February 5th at 2:30 pm where participants will taste seven vintages of Cabernet Franc including a barrel tasting of the 2010 vintage. The tasting will be followed by hors d'œuvre. Join the tasting yourself or give this event as a gift to your wine-loving friend for $35.00/person.
