WineFairy chats with Jean-Charles Boisset, President of Boisset Family Estates, and Per Karlsson-BKWine Brief and BKWine Tours

First segment of this weeks Show: 2008 Wine Enthusiast Magazine "Innovator of the Year Award"... - Jean-Charles Boisset

Jean-Charles Boisset, President of Boisset Family Estates, grew up in the vineyards of Clos Vougeot and developed a life-long passion for wine – both its production and its enjoyment. He possesses a long-term vision for his family’s company that stems from a dedication to innovation and the environment while continually focusing on crafting fine wines of distinction. This vision has led to pioneering efforts in sustainability from the vineyard to the vessel. He has implemented sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming practices at the family’s vineyards, while simultaneously introducing alternative packaging innovations that reduce a wine’s environmental impact and carbon footprint.

Still or sparkling, the wines of Boisset La Famille des Grands Vins "Domaines Artisans et Terroirs" collection are the product of sustainable, with a slight bio-dynamic approach, that combines traditional methods of the authentic or historical local culture with innovative, modern techniques. The Heritage of Burgundy: These wines represent a respectful approach to regions, terroirs and cultures, one that concentrates on the soil, the climate and massal and clonal selection. In addition they all rely on the treasures of the heritage of Burgundy which is based on the sensitive, rigorous and demanding work of growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Third segment of this weeks Show: I Promise… Vinous Vows for 2009 - Per Karlsson

His wife founded BKWine Brief newsletter and BKWine Tours. Per Karlsson, a Swedish-born financial expert based out of Paris has since joined his wife with his photography, technology expertise, and passion for wine. Their combined expertise is a glorious read. This most recently caught my attention on how to improve one’s wine year 2009: 1. Buy six different bottle in stead of six of the same; 2. Spend a couple of extra euros/dollars on the bottle, at least for the ones for the weekend dinners; 3. Don’t choose the house wine in a restaurant; 4. At least once (or twice) a month choose a wine that comes from a district that you’re not very familiar with; 5. Choose a wine that is not on recommendation from an ”expert”; 6. Discover a new wine region in situ.
