1st segment of this weeks Show: International Sommelier Guild Announces San Francisco Spring 2011 Classes - Joseph Miller
 
The International Sommelier Guild (ISG), one of the leading wine education organizations in the United States, announces the Spring 2011 classes in San Francisco beginning on February 7, 2011 and will be held at the City College of San Francisco. This season's classes include the Wine Fundamentals I and Wine Fundamentals II programs and offer students the opportunity to learn about wine from root to vine. The only wine program in the country licensed by the boards of education in states in which it conducts classes, the ISG specializes in bringing together the most in-depth and up-to-date resources from around the world, including top educators, industry leaders, premier restaurateurs, wine merchants, wineries, and writers to keep students and graduates on top of the latest trends, research, developments, and standards in the wine industry. ISG President Joseph Miller says, "Our programs are geared toward wine lovers of all levels and offer in-person hands-on teaching. The Sommelier community is thriving and we welcome everyone to grab a glass and join in."

2nd segment of this weeks Show: The International Sommelier Guild Offers Three Program Levels for Sommeliers in Training Worldwide - Joseph Miller
 
The ISG's introductory course, Wine Fundamentals I, is designed for the novice oenophile. The curriculum is structured to provide an introduction to the basic aspects of sensory evaluation of wine. Upon completion, students will have learned basic wine terminology, will understand label information, appellation concepts, rudimentary service techniques, as well as some of the food- and wine-pairing theories. In Wine Fundamentals II, students are exposed to all elements involved in the wine business, including viticulture, vinification, and regional appellation laws. The Sommelier Diploma Program is an intensive six-month course offered once a week for eight hours per session.The ISG designation is the defining benchmark for wine knowledge within the hospitality industry.
