WineFairy chats with Pierre de Benoist on the Aligoté grape and with Dixon Brooke of Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

First segment of this weeks Show: Burgundy Native Grape Past and Future Intersect at Premium Cru Bouzeron Aligoté - Pierre de Benoist

Pierre de Benoist, nephew of Aubert De Villaine, proprietor of Domaine de la Romane-Conti and Domaine De Villaine, Bouzeron, Premier Cru Appellation is devoted to Aligoté, Burgundy's native grape, pure and authentic organic wines. Bouzeron is raised in large oak foudres in order to allow the Aligoté grape to realize its full potential. The long-standing tradition is to plant Aligoté on the flatlands but at Domaine de Villaine the native grapes is planted on slopes with the utmost attention to detail and future expression of terroir, present and future. Aligoté enjoys its greatest expression in Bouzeron, with this domaine realizing the grapes true character is liveliness, exuberance, playfulness. There is no masking it in new oak, parading it as something it's not. A sterile, stainless steel levage is shunned as well in favor of a process that allows the wine to develop like a great white Burgundy while preserving its vigor.

Second segment of this weeks Show: Bouzeron Noble Aligoté Expresses Deliciousness and Tremendous Value for Fashion-Forward Wine Consumers - Pierre de Benoist

Pierre de Benoist's mission is to transform the perception, even within France, of Burgundy's native Aligoté grape into a highly respectably world-class Premier Cru wine wine. "You will be hard pressed to find better wines anywhere in the Cht Chalonnaise, and don't underestimate their appellations de Villaine wines routinely outperform more prestigious, more expensive appellations. Pierre's dogged work ethic, manic attention in the vines, steadfast adherence to organic agriculture, and rigor in the cellar all play a pivotal role in coaxing pure, authentic, classic Burgundies from the domaine's stony terroirs." -KLWM Bouzeron is the name of one of the five principal wine villages of the Cht Chalonnaise. In case you are interested, the other four are Givry, Rully, Mercurey, and Montagny.

Third segment of this weeks Show: "People Mistakenly Think That French Wines are Expensive" Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant - Dixon Brooke

Dixon Brooke, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant of Berkley, California, is based out of Beaune, France, representing French and Italian portfolio in situ. Alabama born Brooke studied history in college but a trip to Italy sparked his awareness of and interest in wine and the undeniable connection to history and culture. According to Steve Waters, KLWM, "What impressed me in particular... was that for someone relatively new to the wine business, Dixon was very concerned about the relationship between food and wine. On our commutes to Berkeley in the morning, he would describe in great detail the previous night's meal while stressing the freshness and seasonality of the ingredients and how the wines paired with courses "at table." Dixon's use of that expression became a running joke for us every wine or meal we described had to somehow end with "at table."
