GOLD MEDAL WINNER!

This wine is an homage to the Old World, and opens up with aromas of bright red fruit, raspberry, wild herbs and roasted espresso beans. On the palate, lively flavors of ripe plum, raspberry and cherry, vibrant acidity, balanced tannins, silky mouth-feel and a long smooth finish. Overall, it is young, ripe, and incredibly complex.

There's a deep garnet coloring announcing this 2010 Muscardini Barbera as being a genuine jewel. Its nose, similar to a Moroccan marketplace, is full of spices like cloves and nutmeg with peppery notes familiar to all Barbera's. Imagine cramming a handful of sun-ripened blackberries in your mouth followed by a piece of dark chocolate. It gets better. The meld of an ever so soft sweet taste with just a hint of bitterness matches perfectly with grilled beef tenderloin topped with Gorgonzola cheese.

Barbera is becoming more and more popular, particularly in California. We're seeing more wine lovers excited about it, and asking about it, every day. Many California producers offer a varietal Barbera. Michael Muscardini's just happens to be our favorite. The recent 'Gold Medal' at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for this wine is a great affirmation.  And while it's true that Barbera is a fantastic food wine,  it is also quite enjoyable on its own.

Still, Barbera wines remain a bit obscure, but with great award winners like this, we expect that to change very soon!
